Alexander the Great’s long-lost city Alexandria located after nearly 2,000 years: ‘Absolutely stunning’

Archaeologists have confirmed the location of a long-lost city founded by Alexander the Great — a once-thriving trade hub that’s been hidden for centuries.

The ancient city, known as Alexandria on the Tigris, is located in southern Iraq, near the Persian Gulf.

It was founded in the fourth century B.C. as a port city linking trade from India to Mesopotamia and the Mediterranean world.
