A girls’ basketball team in Vermont forfeited their state tournament game after discovering that their opposing team had a transgender player. The player in question, a 6’1″ athlete, had previously played on the boys’ team before transitioning to female and joining the girls’ team.
The decision to forfeit the game was made by the team’s coaches and parents, who argued that the transgender player had an unfair advantage due to her size and strength. The coaches also claimed that the player’s presence on the team was a violation of Title IX, a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in educational programs and activities.
