Two supposed criminal experts have faced backlash for rejecting the use of the word ‘looting’ to describe the string of thefts plaguing California in recent days.
Lorenzo Boyd, a professor of criminal justice & community policing at the University of New Haven, and Martin Reynolds, co-executive director of the Robert C. Maynard Institute of Journalism Education, told ABC 7 that the term ‘looting’ has racist connotations and should be avoided when discussing the surge of crime in the Bay Area.
