U.S. Army Lieutenant Who Led Shameful My Lai Massacre Dies

William L. Calley Jr., the former U.S. Army lieutenant who led the shameful My Lai Massacre during the Vietnam War—the most notorious war crime in modern American military history—has died aged 80.
Calley died on April 28 at a hospice center in Gainesville, Florida, the Washington Post reported citing his death certificate.
On March 16, 1968, Calley led soldiers from Charlie Company on a mission expected to engage Viet Cong forces.
