Despite the endless supply of UFO sightings and supposed alien encounters in recent decades, our fascination with extra terrestrial life dates back all the way to the 17th century according to recent studies.
It is believed that astronomers and academics first came to the view in the 1600s after discovering that despite previous beliefs that the earth was at the centre of the universe it was instead the case that like all other planets the earth orbited the sun.
