It is an unlikely story but one that is true, and it epitomises the magical aura that lingers around Ancient Egypt even thousands of years after its civilisation collapsed.
In 2007, John Ward, an archaeologist, and Maria Nilsson, an Egyptologist, at that time unknown to each other, were sailing down the River Nile in search of ancient splendours.
Not only was it “love at first sight” for them, but it was also love at first sight on discovering a place that few had had the privilege.
