Archaeologists stunned by discovery of European megalith 2,000 years older than Stonehenge

Just outside Portugal’s capital of Lisbon sits one of the country’s most mystifying sites.

The Cromlech of the Almendres — commonly known as Almendres Cromlech — is a megalithic complex hidden among the woods of Évora.

It is the largest such stone structure along the Iberian Peninsula and one of the largest in Europe, though few will have heard its name.
