The Romans arrived in Britain in 43 AD and by 87 AD they had defeated many of the Native Celtic tribes and largely captured all of the southern half of the country.
They would stay until 410 AD, the year when they began slowly trickling back towards the centre of the Empire in Europe to help defend against escalating military threats, political instability, and economic challenges.
Those hundreds of years of occupation left their mark on the UK, much of which can still be seen today.
