The State Department named its first U.S. envoy for LGBTQ+ and intersex rights, Kimberly Zieselman, in honor of ‘Intersex Awareness Day’ on Wednesday.
Zieselman is a ‘respected intersex expert and advocate,’ according to the State Department and her appointment comes after the department began offering the X gender marker on U.S. passport forms over the summer.
