Suicide is the 17th leading cause of death in the world, taking the lives of 700,000 people annually across the globe. From 1999 to 2017, the suicide rate among the US population increased from 10.5 to 14 per 100,000 people.

The fact that medical workers are at a higher risk of committing suicide is not new to researchers, but they were surprised to find pharmacists at the top of professions with the highest suicide rates.
