White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre played defense on Tuesday, as reporters peppered her with questions about the U.S. stock market’s latest drops.
“We are closely watching. We know that families are concerned about inflation and the stock market,” Jean-Pierre said during a press gaggle, when asked about recession fears and the S&P 500’s SPX, -3.65% fall on Monday into a bear market — popularly defined as a drop of at least 20% from a recent peak.
