A string of fires in West Texas claimed the life of a law enforcement official, burned at least 50 homes, and have devoured more than 54,000 acres, officials said.
The four fires that make up the Eastland Complex fire — the Kidd, Wheat Field, Oak Mott and Walling fires — have burned 54,015 acres, according to Angel Lopez Portillo, spokesman for the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG). The fire was 30 percent contained Saturday.
